AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
ALL material is due at time of registration unless otherwise stated by Ms. Yakema Hicks
- Dance Audition Application (distributed to you at registration on April 10 and April 12, 2008)
- 1 Full Body 8 X 10 photo (preferably one that accentuates shape; dance pictures are ideal, but not required)
- CURRENT COLLEGE STUDENTS ONLY – 1 officially sealed transcript and 1 professionally associated recommendation letter
- HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS ONLY - 2 sealed recommendation letters; 1 from guidance counselor noting current overall academic status and 1 professionally associated recommendation letter
- One short essay, 350 words or less, addressing What are your strengths and weaknesses? What can you bring that the Essence Dance Line does not already possess? Of all the HBCU dance teams, why are you desiring to be a part of the Clark Atlanta University Essence Dance Line?
- $10 non-refundable registration fee(cash, money orders , and cashiers's checks ONLY)
STAR TWIRLER INTERESTS
All young ladies interested in auditioning for “Star Twirler 2008-2009” should adhere
to the same list of audition requirements listed above. Please be prepared to audition on April 12, 2008 9am – 4pm. You should prepare a twirling routine that presents your “A” game, whether it involves 1 baton, multiple batons, or fire. The routine should be no longer than 1 minute 30 seconds. Please be mindful that Clark Atlanta University will not provide any batons for your audition. Please bring all batons, music, and additional supplies with you.

It is highly recommended only to those who ABSOLUTELY can not audition in person, usually for academic conflicts with dates or extreme travel reasons. Please be advised that though all submitted videos will be reviewed, none will be considered for the Essence Dance Line until all eligible candidates who audition in person are considered.
EACH VIDEO SHOULD:
- INTRODUCE the candidate providing name, hometown, year/major (if applicable), and song being used.
- INCLUDE choreography presented in dance attire to an uptempo track longer than 1 minute but no longer than 2 minutes.
- PRESENT an organized choreographed piece including the following basics: front/side jazz walks, triplets, chasse’, pas de bouree’ turn, grande battement, 1 double pirouette turn, 2 pique’ turns, toe touch, left/right split, and 1 stag leap.

EACH VIDEO PACKET SUBMITTED SHOULD INCLUDE:
- All audition requirements listed above, with the exception of a dance audition application.
- 1 finished video
- $10 non-refundable registration fee (money orders ONLY payable to Yakema Hicks)
- One short essay (See above audition information on essay requirements)
- RECEIVED, not postmarked, but received on Friday, April 11, 2008 to be considered for the Essence Dance Line
